The Bike Migration is offering safe and convenient bicycle transportation from Johannesburg to Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) and back for triathletes participating in the 2025 Ironman South Africa or 5150 triathlon in on Saturday 29 March 2025 or Sunday 30 March 2025.

Bicycle transportation will be charged at the rates below. This cost includes all packing material, boxes and handling in order to transport your bike from Johannesburg to Gqeberha and back to Johannesburg.

You may add an additional small bag with helmet/shoes and a bike pump at no extra cost. Space for bigger bags may be booked (we’ll transport it in a separate box). If a bag can’t safely fit with the bike into the box we’ll transport it separately but the bag will be charged for.

Please ensure all bags/items are clearly marked.

Communication

We’ll communicate race critical information through a Whatsapp broadcast group. This includes location pins of where to drop off and collect your bike, and transportation updates. Please save our contact number 0798892527 on your phone to receive our updates. If you don’t save our number you won’t receive updates from us and might not know where to find your bike before the race or receive updates on the transportation of your bike.

Cyclists can drop off their bikes in Johannesburg on the following date and times:

JOHANNESBURG DROP-OFF

Earlier drop-off can be done at a cost of R200 per bike. Please call us on 079 889 2527 to make arrangements.

GQEBERHA DROP-OFF

Take note of the following times when bikes have to be dropped off at The Bike Migration after completion of the race:

Bikes must be dropped off immediately after completion of the race, as The Bike Migration trucks will depart Gqeberha at 01:00 sharp. Any bikes not delivered during these times will NOT be transported back to Johannesburg by The Bike Migration.

Take note of the following dates and times when bikes can be collected:

Bikes not collected by 16:00 on 2 April will go into storage and attract a storage fee of R100 per bike per day or part thereof. Arrangements must be made with us to collect your bike from storage. Storage fees are payable cash only.

Dates and times are to be strictly adhered to. Bikes will only be accepted and made available during these times.

Bookings can be made online via credit card, or through EFT. We need to receive EFT payments within 24 hours of when a booking was made, else we will not accept the booking.
A confirmation of booking email will be sent to the cyclists upon receiving their booking. This confirmation email will also contain a booking reference number. Your booking will only be confirmed after payment has been received.

Please note that we use specially designed cardboard boxes to pack and transport bikes. When dropping off your bike, we will unclip the wheel/s and bubble-wrap them, and then place the bike frame and wheel/s in the box. When dropping off the bike, all devices which are not permanently fastened to the bike (such as speedometers, cadence meters, heart rate monitors, water bottles, etc.) can also be placed inside the box.
