The Bike Migration is offering safe and convenient bicycle transportation from Johannesburg to Cape Town and back for cyclists participating in the 2023 Cape Town Cycle Tour on Sunday 10 March 2024.

Bicycle transportation will be charged at the rates below. This cost includes all packing material and handling in order to transport your bike from Johannesburg to Cape Town and back to Johannesburg.

You may add an additional small bag with helmet/shoes and a bike pump at no extra cost. Space for bigger bags may be booked (we’ll transport it in a separate box). If a bag can’t safely fit with the bike into the box we’ll transport it separately but the bag will be charged for.

Please mark all bags/items clearly.

COMMUNICATION

We’ll communicate race critical information on our social media platforms and through a Whatsapp broadcast group. This includes location pins of where to drop off and collect your bike, and transportation updates. Please follow us on Facebook/Twitter and save our contact number 0798892527 on your phone to receive our updates. If you don’t save our number you won’t receive updates from us and might not know where to find your bike before the race or receive updates on the transportation of your bike.

We offer group discounts for 4 or more cyclists who make a booking at the same time (applicable from 1 December 2023):

Bike services before and/or after the race:
Bikes shops are fully booked for bike services before the Cape Town Cycle Tour. We have partnered with Dunkeld Cycles for drop-off/collection to offer you more convenience and competitive prices! When booking your bike with us, you can book a minor or major service to ensure your bike is race ready. There are limited spaces available. Please ensure you add this option when making and paying for your booking to avoid disappointment.

Take note of the following dates and times when bikes can be collected from The Bike Migration in Cape Town. Our tent is located across the road from the Expo (which is at Cape Town Stadium in Green Point). We’ll send a location pin on Whatsapp before you collect. To receive the information you need to save our number on your phone (0798892527).

Take note of the following times when bikes have to be dropped off at The Bike Migration tent after completion of the race:

Bikes must be dropped off immediately after completion of the race, as The Bike Migration trucks will depart Cape Town on Sunday 10 March. Any bikes not delivered during these times will NOT be transported back to Johannesburg by The Bike Migration.

Bikes not collected by 16:00 on 14 March will go into storage and attract a storage fee of R100 per bike per day or part thereof. Arrangements must be made with us to collect your bike from storage. Storage fees are payable cash only.

Booking Your Bike

Bookings can be made online via credit card, or through EFT. We need to receive EFT payments within 24 hours of when a booking was made, else we will not accept the booking.

A confirmation of booking email will be sent to the cyclists upon receiving their booking. This confirmation email will also contain a booking reference number. Your booking will only be confirmed after payment has been received.

Dropping Off Your Bike

Please note that we use specially designed cardboard boxes to pack and transport bikes. When dropping off your bike, we will unclip the wheel/s and bubble-wrap them, and then place the bike frame and wheel/s in the box. When dropping off the bike, all devices which are not permanently fastened to the bike (such as speedometers, cadence meters, heart rate monitors, water bottles, etc.) can also be placed inside the box.
